denying that. i can tell you an interesting sight. on the other side of this house, that's where the garage is. when we pulled up we were able to see inside that garage. it's open. there are two cars parked inside. both as far as i could tell are untouched by the flames. what i'm trying to say is it looks like this fire was contained just to the backside of this home. we're still waiting to get all of the latest information. live in sunnyvale, marla tellez, "today in the bay." switching gears now at 5:01. 49ers and their quest for the sixth bowl trophy. once again interrupted by controversy this morning. the team is now trying to stay focused on sunday's big game. a difficult task after anti-gave comments made by chris culliver gained national attention. >> ahmed fareed joins us now. nothing short of a bonehead comment. the team focusing on the biggest game of its career. what's the overall mood of the

team with this going on? >> reporter: absolutely right. any player should know that any comment they make could become national news and chris culliver was flying under the radar for the most part here at super bowl week. not doing a lot of interviews. that's sure to change after he made those comments as you mentioned derogatory toward gays. he would be opposed to having a gay player with him. culliver was doing an interview on media day with a comedian. became national news. >> any of them approach you? >> i don't do the gay guys. i don't do that. >> any on the 49ers? >> no. they don't got no gay people on the team. they have to get up out of here if they do. can't be with that sweet stuff. >> is that true? >> it's true. >> they might be able to play well. >> no. >> no?

radar. surely not the case anymore. the 49ers are available this morning and if chris culliver is available, he'll have the biggest hoard of reporters around him. >> unbelievable that's the focus over the next couple days. hopefully football will be back taking center stage. ridiculous stuff. former 49ers lineman harris reacting to culliver's comments in a statement released exclusively to us. harris making headlines earlier this week when it was revealed he is in fact gay. harris said, "it is surprising that in 2013 chris culliver would use his 15 minutes to spread vitriol and hate. i recognize these are comments he came to regret and may come to see that gay people are not so different than straight people." >> the 49ers had a similar incident in 2002 when former

running back made anti-gay remarks so they stick around and they're very strong to hear these days. back here at home, a group of local artists putting finishing touches on a special mural dedicated to the niners. >> they are creating art work on the rooftop of a building. christie smith is live by the masonic lodge on mission street with an inside look at how their work is shaping up. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. i feel like a cat burglar. we're on a roof in the mission district where there's a new mural going up. the game is in new orleans but the love is back here at home. two artists out here painting a new mural. the city believes gold. two artists going up and they are putting the finishing touches on this. this is the masonic building in the mission district. they just painted this one. good morning to you, steve. can you tell us how you came up with this design?

>> basically we were originally going to do just a basic logo. we wanted to know how to make it different and make it pop so everyone says gold blooded. >> it's a helmet bleeding gold. >> this building is bleeding gold. in the form of a helmet. >> reporter: this one is going up and on the other side we have video. you did another niners mural. >> that was the first one that got us into doing these murals. it's signed by vernon davis. that was a nice one for sure. >> reporter: wow. how did you get into this and why the niners? >> originally it was for a music video. the first one signed by vernon davis and everything just snow balled. we want to do it for the community and bring people together. >> reporter: you do art for parties. people getting ready for the super bowl. >> exactly. quite a few clients. they want to be the one with the nice art work at the party. so, yeah. we're doing a lot. >> you're doing a beautiful job

another half hour obviously. probably another hour until they can even start to figure out how to clear things up. other than the fact that we have at least some flight improvement. two lanes behind it big rig are open. that's half of the freeway northbound 101 just north of lawrence just south of fair oaks. if you are heading out of san jose and santa clara and into mountain view and palo alto, this is the problem. the map shows you the backup as a result of this. they have to clear up the fuel leak. that's what's going on. slowing. alternates for you. central expressway or 280 are clear around the south side and from the north you can take 237 over into mountain view. you can see slowing around transition but that will clear up. meanwhile, the rest of your commute like the berkeley area looking smooth and east shore freeway light volume for interstate 80. the big problem we're tracking is into sunnyvale at northbound 101. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. 5:10. our coverage of the 49ers quest for six continues in just a bit. >> that's right. we'll have a live look at the

facebook says that more people access the site from mobile than any other computers. >> that's right. good morning. first time we saw music downloads more of those than cds sold and some day ahead we'll see more ebooks sold than books. facebook said it had more mobile users than computer users. another important bit of news, facebook said its revenue increased by 40% to $1.6 billion in the quarter. that's $740,000 an hour or $12,000 a second.

$12,000, $12,000 and so on. big jobs report tomorrow. a bit of a stunner on gdp. let's check with jackie deangelis. she's live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> good morning. futures right now slightly lower after stocks lost a bit of ground yesterday. investors reacting to the report showing the economy contracted during the final three months of last year. it's the first negative print on gdp since the spring of 2009 due to a big drop in defense spending amid uncertainty over the fiscal cliff. today we'll get data on unemployment, personal income and spending and manufacturing. the dow losing 44 points yesterday to close at 13,910. now 90 points shy of that 14,000 mark. the nasdaq down 11 to 3142. remember the major indices on track for the best january in years. s&p dup 5.3%.

back. christina loren is back with us. how are you feeling? >> i'm feeling great. amazing what a couple days will do to recharge batteries. we're so close to the weekend to recharge your batteries. you'll be happy about the weather you get to enjoy on this thursday. friday eve around here. 34 degrees, good morning, gilroy. 41 degrees in san jose. so we're going to get some really great weather just like we did not last super bowl but the super bowl before that if you can remember we had the 70s. temperatures are going to be just about as warm this year. we're looking really good on sunday. before that time, we're actually going to peak in terms of our warmth today and tomorrow. enjoy. 38 degrees in livermore to start pch 41 in san jose. we did have a quarter mile visibility in santa rosa. that's crept up to three-quarters of a mile. we'll monitor that for you throughout the morning. high pressure in control of our weather pattern. this will continue to grow for today. really boosting your temperatures up pushing those

winds offshore. and so it will be at its maximum throughout today and tomorrow. we're going to peak in the 70s. few upper 60s but mostly forecasting close to 70 degrees all across the south bay today. 70 in gilroy. 67 degrees in places like sunnyvale and as we get into the upcoming weekend, temperatures are going to stay nice and mild. as you can see we're expecting mid 60s both saturday and sunday and rain moves in on wednesday. >> we do have a sig-alert but we lost the signal. let me take you out to the maps and if we get the signal back we'll show you live pictures. big jam northbound 101 approaching fair oaks. between lawrence expressway and fair oaks. we have the live pictures. progress made. northbound direction -- wow. signal is still bad. northbound direction now shows two lanes open as you head through the area. we still see the backup as the volume of traffic starts to eke up over the next half hour we'll see it build. a slowdown from great american

parkway up toward north fair oaks. you see a couple alternates in this picture. west 237 north of the incident or central expressway and 280 are options coming from south of the area. all are clear except for 101 north through sunnyvale. we'll also show you the rest of the build. typical through the tri-valley. no problems at the dublin interchange. slowing out of altamont typical for westbound direction. san mateo bridge over the water shows a smooth drive in the westbound commute. there you go. no problems eastbound. the peninsula a clear light flow right now. we'll take you up to the approach and the bay bridge itself. a smooth flow across that incline into the city and lower deck just as light coming out. back to you. >> okay. thank you very much. there's a good chance you remember the pictures and video we brought you of mice dropping and contamination inside an east bay food distributor seven months ago. another nbc bay area investigative exclusive. this time we actually take you inside of that facility and talk to owners as they try to rebuild

their business. chief investigative reporter broke that story. >> after becoming aware of our investigation, the state labeled it a massive infestation. mice and other rodents contaminating products. now after months of cleaning and repairing the fremont warehouse, the company says it wants to get back in business. you're looking at approximapict last may and june an upclose look at the walls behind this distributor. details exposed by two former employees. >> what the mice do is they are on the ground and they'll eat from the bottom within a product and they'll just climb all of the way up. >> go deeper. more mouse droppings.

this is san francisco herb natural food company. >> i'll show you specific areas where we think the problem originated and show you what has been done to address that problem. >> a national food safety expert hired by the company to identify and eliminate the rodent problems our investigation exposed inside this warehouse. >> basically ground zero of the problem right here from your assessment. >> i think that's a good way to characterize it. >> after months of inspecting the facility and identifying the problems, the company believes it started with dozens of small holes in the cracks between the concrete slabs. holes where mice and rodents work into the facility and into the tea, spices and natural foods. >> we have gone through the whole warehouse and filled in all of the cracks. there's no way for them to come in now. >> barry owns san francisco herb and natural food. he says changes in pest and rodent management along with

right now we continue following breaking news in sunnyvale where fire investigators are on scene of an overnight fire that turned into a crime scene. >> marla tellez was first on the scene and has new details about it all. marla? >> reporter: laura and jon, good morning. in the last 30 minutes the coroner has arrived on scene so it seems pretty fair to say that this two-alarm fire has now turn deadly. we haven't heard this officially from either the fire captain or police spokesperson out here but again with the coroner on scene it does seem fair to say that this fire is now deadly. the fire was contained to just the back room of this home. that room there completely gutted inside. this home is one of hundreds inside the plaza delray complex

on vienna drive near lawrence expressway and tazman drive. they call it a manufactured housing community. i put a call into them and they are aware of it. no statement other than that. the fire started at 11:25 last night but they aren't saying how and where it started. in the last hour or so since we've been here, a lot of activity. police coming out here to put the crime scene tape up to rope off this entire area. again, the coroner arriving on scene within the last 30 minutes. we've also seen investigators out here taking pictures of the crime scene and also the red cross has arrived presumably to help out firefighters still on scene and hopefully some survivors. live in sunnyvale, marla tellez, "today in the bay." >> thank you, marla. 5:31 right now. thank you for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we're also watching a major tie-up on highway 101 this morning. mike inouye joins us now. what's the latest?

>> the latest is we still have just two lanes of the northbound direction open because of this big rig. look at the damage done to the rig and that fuel tank. you see how they lifted the front of the truck. trying to move it back to a portion that will not continue leaking out. we have seen this absorbant spread out. someone sweeping that up. caltrans is on the scene. we're waiting for an update on how long they expect. we'll show you the backup as it continues to build on the maps here northbound 101 is slow from great american parkway all of the way up to the scene. we see these speeds start to improve a little bit but we still have only two lanes open. alternates, 237 central expressway, 280 or even tazman. we'll show you the other issue i'm watching right now. oakland southbound 880 a crash as you approach the coliseum. minor slowing past the scene. busy already. back to you. >> thank you very much. it is going to get busy for the 49ers continuing our coverage for quest for another

super bowl trophy. no doubt the brothers jim and john harbaugh will be in the spotlight during sunday's big showdown. >> we cannot forget about the most talked about parents in the entire country, maybe the entire world talking about jack and jackie harbaugh. ahmed fareed joins us live from new orleans. everyone wants to know. it's a hot show. must have ticket. what's happening with the mom and dad command performance? >> reporter: i tell you what, jon, they were certainly making the media rounds yesterday up until that point it was their sons, jim and john, in that media spotlight. yesterday it was the turn of the parents to be in that limelight. talking to the general press. talking on 49ers central. some things they talked about. someone asked if they asked jim and john to tone it down. no. they are who they are. jack said one of the most important pieces of advice he ever got in his coaching career was marry wisely. they did that. they moved 17 times in his coaching year.

he said jackie did the brunt of that work. dave feldman talked with jack and jackie and asked many things. one of the biggest questions is who has it better than them? >> jack, when you were driving them around in the back seat and look around and say i don't care what we're doing, who's got it better than us. john told me he was a little ticked that john brought it to the niners. >> he shared that with me as well. i saw john got one in. john sneaked that into his press conference today trying to get one up on jim. >> the interesting thing about that statement is that we've had other parents call us and tell us that they used that with their children and they say what a great thing to be able to say to their kids to have a positive outlook on your life. >> reporter: they are competing on who gets to use the family

mission street way up high with a look at how their work is shaping up. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and jon. the building manager here at the masonic center is telling us that his family has been 49eres season ticket holders since 1946. he's the ultimate fan. he decided to go ahead and commission a mural on the side of the building and i wanted to show you, there it is. one of the artists working on it putting finishing touches on this morning. didn't take them long to put this together. here's one of the artists. good morning. >> hi. >> tell us about this. how did you come up with this design? >> jim contacted us and he was, like, we want to do a niners thing because we had done a giants thing on the other side of the building. we were thinking we don't want to do just the logo. we want to push the limits a bit and do something different. somehow we were just going back and forth with our ideas and we came up with this whole idea of san francisco, the gold rush, founded on that.

it's the entrepreneurial spirit so we were thinking, okay, the building is dripping gold. it's forming his helmet. >> you have another mural on the other side. the niners mural as well. >> down the street during the playoffs when we almost made it, we did the niners mural with vernon davis and he came out and autographed it. >> real quickly. we were talking with you earlier and at the knew stadium, niners are looking maybe at bringing art in and you guys are looking into getting in there as well maybe. >> we've been talking with some of the people who are deciding on who is going to do that art. we submitted our information and they're going to get back to us. we're hoping that we can -- we really want to get in there. it would be cool. >> good luck to you. the website is luminaries.net. they have done private art for people who are having super bowl parties. we'll be showing more of that coming up in 45 minutes. that's the latest from here reporting live from san francisco, i'm christie smith,

direction are open. let me show you the view from the chopper. we just got this in. i've been checking it. we lost that as well. i'll take you out to the maps where we'll look over here. there you go. there's the shot again. northbound side does still have that rig. hooked up on the tow truck and despite the fact they did have all of that absorbant spread through the area, they just have two lanes open. chp waiting for caltrans to give clearance on that. there's the slowdown you see coming up through santa clara and all of the way up to fair oaks. get on north of fair oaks you are okay. 237 a good alternate to catch you north of the scene. let me take you for a live look outside and see how the commute is shaping up. folks heading 101 into the area. that's why i'm concerned. the first burst hitting 101. it may cause a backup if they don't clear that rig in the next half hour and we have no update from them from caltrans that is. a live look farther north and southbound 880 with flashing lights on the shoulder just

around the coliseum. no significant slowing. just a little distraction for the southbound side. northbound taillights smooth to the bay bridge toll plaza where things are moving smoothly and a light volume but the cash lanes starting to show a slowdown. the roads are at least dry. what do you have for us? >> at least they are dry. thick pockets of fog out there this morning. that was a really good note. great alternate route. as we head throughout the morning we'll continue to see the fog develop. it will be at its thickest between 7:00 and 9:00. keep that in mind. after which time we'll clear you out nicely. lots of sunshine for today. 38 degrees to start in livermore. grab your coat. don't need a heavy one. we're headed toward 60 degrees as of noon in livermore. 62 degrees breaking for lunch today in san jose and look at where we are headed? it's not just the super bowl bringing on the good vibes this morning, it's the 70s as well. 70s in gilroy. santa cruz too. we'll hold onto the warmth one more day and then things change. your full forecast is just a few

boy hostage inside of a homemade bunker there. on tuesday 65-year-old jimmy lee dikes allegedly walked onto a school bus, shot that driver several times and then took off with the young boy. that driver who was just trying to protect the kids now being called a hero. he sadly later died. police say they have been able to talk to the boy and are communicating with the suspect through a pvc pipe. the suspect was reportedly due in court yesterday morning accused of shooting at his neighbors during a fight last month. hundreds of firefighters at a scene of a massive fire at a food processing plant in wisconsin. the fire broke out at echo lake foods in burlington just before 6:00 last night. it forced dozens of people living nearby out of their homes. an area hospital says it had a handful of walk-in patients dealing with smoke inhalation problems but as of now no reports of major injuries. no word on the cause of the
